Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand : Prachuap Khiri Khan, famous for it's bathing resort Hua Hin, is a province located at the Gulf of Thailand, stretching approx. 140 - 330 km south of Bangkok. The province capital and it's immediate vicinity are still rather less frequented and offer a lot of natural attractions. It is here, where the narrowest part of Thailand can be found, covering barely 11 km from the seashore to the border of Myanmar.

Phranang Bay, Ao Nang, Railee Beach : Ao Nang and Ao Noppharat Thara (Ao is the Thai word for “bay”) are two adjacent beaches about 20 km west of Krabi town in Krabi province. They are very popular for good reasons: Both the limestone cliffs towering over Ao Nang as well as several small islands in the bay area offer a most impressive scenery. Both Ao Nang and Ao Noppharat Thara have nice sandy beaches. Tour operators in the bay area offer scuba diving and the nearby Ao Railee is one of Thailand’s most famous climbing spots. Daily boat tours to several islands and kayaks for rent are also on offer. Ao Nang has been vibrant with hotels, resorts, bars, cafes, restaurants and shops for years. Although this development has set in at Noppharat Thara beach too, parts of it are nowadays protected as beeing a national park. Note: Shopping at the beach promenade is usually more expensive than shopping elsewhere because the shop owners have to cover the much higher rent for their places.

Tiger Cave Temple Wat Thamm Suea : Located on a hilltop at the outskirt of Krabi town, this Buddhist temple offers a magnificent view, especially at dawn or dusk. The catch is that you have to climb up (and down) a very steep staircase consisting of 1.237 steps (one way!). The steep climb up and down is truly arduous, but you will be rewarded with magnificent views and a beautiful huge buddhist statue awaits you at the top. Some tips: -wear comfortable clothing and shoes -bring drinking water as the climb takes 30 minutes to 45 minutes depending how fast you climb -bring your camera, you would not want to miss it at the hilltop.

Emerald pool Sra Morakot : This is one of Krabi province’s most famous tourist attractions. Embedded in lowland forest in the subdistrict (Tambon) Khlong Thom Nuea is the Emerald Pool or Sa Morakot. 3 underground hot springs with a temperature of 30 – 50 degrees Celsius are sedimented with layers of alkaline limestone, resulting in a crystal clear large pool. Due to the composition of the pool bottom and the bacteria, mineral and lime stone solution mixed in the stream that feeds the pool, it has a stunning deep green appearance. Visitors determined to see the real emerald colour should plan to visit at dawn or early in the morning. The forest is home to numerous flora and rare birds like Gurney’s Pitta, Rufous-collared Kingfisher, and Black Hornbill.

Hot Springs Khlong Dtom : About 70 km southeast of Krabi town and near the Khao Phra Bang Khram Nature Reserve are the hot springs of Khlong Dtom. You can take a bath in several thermal pools or in a natural basin that is part of a small cascade. The water here comes from thermal springs, originating deep underground in volcanic chambers. The mineral salts contained in the water are said to ease a number of ailments, including rheumatism, sciatica and skin complaints. Although these medical claims are unproven, the effect of simply lazing in hot water up to your chin, watching the clouds go by, certainly has wellness benefits. If you approach the cascade from the small canal side by swimming you may find the small odd ‘stone face’ depicted below.

Seashell cemetery Susaan Hoi : Susan Hoi is an archaic petrified shell cemetery located about 18 kilometres from Krabi town centre on a 200 metre stretch along Ban Laem Pho. This shell cemetery is considered by recent scientific experts to date back 40-25 million years, although local folklore claims it’s even older at 75 million years. The cemetery came into being after the limestone deposits in the water covered and fossilised shellfish, snails and a variety of other sea creatures creating slabs of intricate geological relics. This is great place to visit if you’re interested in geology or historical artefacts and is claimed to be one of only three such shell cemetery sites in the world. There are also mangrove forests worth exploring close by. Be warned that the fossil stones at full daylight may not be looking particularly spectacular, since they visually resemble large concrete blocks. It is highly recommended, though, to experience the beauty of the surroundings in the morning.

Koh Phangan, Thailand: bays and beaches : Around the island of Koh Phangan, Suratthani province, South Thailand. Although Koh Phangan is mostly famous for it's monthly "full moon party" at Haad Rin beach, there are a lot of top beach locations and other attractions to be explored around the island. Photos are ordered starting at Thongsala, the "island capital" and main ferry pier, and going around the island counterclockwise. Last set of pictures is taken at Phaeng waterfall at and Dom Sila viewpoint at Than Sadet National Park, which is about 5 km northwest of Thong Sala within the island.

Khanom district, Thailand: the less known paradise. : Khanom district in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, South Thailand, is a less known coastal district adjacent to the well known tropical island Koh Samui. Amongst local people Khanom bay is also a well known bathing resort. Khanom district is conveniently accessible via 3 different airports (Suratthani, Nakhon Si Thammarat and Koh Samui) or from Suratthani/Punpin train station. There is also a daily overnight bus connection to and from Bangkok. Khanom district features 9 different bays, 9 different beaches, 3 waterfalls, 3 caves and is also home of several schools of dolphins, amongst them the rare pink (indo-pacific) dolphin. Today Khanom is still far less developed and far less known than the nearby resort islands Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. A visit is highly recommended for all travellers who are looking for a yet largely unspoiled travel destination and who are willing to explore a little bit themselves. Welcome!

Phimai Historical Park, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Thailand : Phimai historical park in Phimai, Nakhon Ratchasima province, Northeast Thailand, comprises the ruins of a huge ancient Khmer garrison. A string of these garrisons extending from north Thailand to Angkor Wat made a vital part of the ancient Khmer empire. Phimai is located about 50 km northeast of the city of Korat.
